Access to the Internet should be considered a human right. But the recent Net Neutrality decision, the remarkable abuse of the Internet by spying agencies and governments, and the voracious control seeking strategies by corporations not only ignore that right but threaten the destruction of the Internet as we know and need it. This "audience discussion" workshop at the 2014 Left Forum in New York City explored the clearest alternative: de-privatization of the Internet by making Internet access available to everyone through municipal and public wifi and wired systems in the U.S. and stronger protections in Mexico. Panelists from both countries explainec the situation, proposed alternatives and engaged with attendees in exploring the possibilities. With Alfredo Lopez, Jamie McClelland, Jacobo Najera, Melissa Morrone, María Eugenia Chávez Fonseca, Joseph Torres, and Augustín Ramirez. (See
